What Is Measles, Mumps and Rubella?
The MMR vaccine protects against 3 viral infections; measles, mumps and rubella. These 3 infections spread easily between people and can lead to serious problems including meningitis, blindness and hearing loss. Get vaccinated and protect yourself against all 3 infections. Who Needs The Measles, Mumps and Rubella Jab?
Our travel clinic experts recommend getting the vaccine if you fall into the following groups:
- Babies and Young Children: The NHS schedule includes two doses of the MMR vaccine—one at 1 year old and another at 3 years and 4 months. If there is an increased risk of measles, an additional dose may be required for babies between 6 and 12 months.
- Older Children and Adults: The MMR vaccine is available at any age. It is crucial to get vaccinated if you missed it during childhood, are planning a pregnancy, are traveling to high-risk areas, or work in healthcare. Those born between 1970 and 1990 might need to be vaccinated against all three infections.
